The Best Concrete Contractor in Hilton Head
Pool decks resurfaced after years of salt exposure, driveways cracked from fill soil that never compacted right, patios poured on lots still being carved out of the island, this is Sharper Edge Custom Concrete’s work on Hilton Head for two decades. The island doesn’t treat concrete kindly, and we’ve stopped being surprised by it.

Custom Concrete Work on Hilton Head Island
Hilton Head’s built different: instead of an old town and new subdivisions, it’s planned communities like Sea Pines, Palmetto Dunes, and Shipyard that mostly went in during the same 1950s-60s building boom, so a lot of what we’re called out for is original concrete now pushing 40 to 60 years old.
Plenty of those lots back up to a lagoon or sit near the marsh, meaning fill soil that has to be compacted right before we pour. Salt air off the ocean wears down the surface faster than inland work, so we’re more particular about sealant out here. And with the island sitting low and lagoons cutting through everywhere, drainage is usually the first thing we plan for on a job.
What Hilton Head Homeowners Ask Us Before a Pour
Are Sea Pines, Palmetto Dunes, or other communities strict about concrete changes?
Pretty much all of them have some form of architectural review, and a few are stricter than others about materials or layout for driveways and patios. We’ve worked with enough of these boards to know what documentation they’ll typically ask for upfront.
What actually triggers a permit here versus just needing community sign-off?
It’s less about the size of the project and more about where the property sits, flood zone status especially plays a bigger role on Hilton Head than in most towns. We check that before quoting anything so there aren’t surprises mid-project.
My property has some grand old live oaks. Does that limit what you can do?
It can. The Town protects a lot of Hilton Head’s tree canopy under the LMO, so removing or even pruning certain trees to make room for a pour can require a separate tree permit. We plan around the canopy where we can so you’re not stuck waiting on approvals.
My house backs up to a lagoon. Does that affect permitting or just the pour itself?
Both, honestly. Lagoon-adjacent lots often sit close to wetland buffers, and altering anything near that line can trigger a separate natural resources review from the town. On top of that, the fill soil common near lagoons needs to be compacted properly before we ever pour.
